We sort of took that week off, on the entertainment front anyway. \u00a0We needed to wind down a bit. \u00a0Plus all our friends (errr, both of them,) were busy so we were kind of hung out to dry. \u00a0We had a moderately entertaining weekend of it anyway though, or so it seemed. \u00a0Friday Donette was out of town, so I sort of hung out at the house. \u00a0I did crash a dinner party (with both of my friends) and had a good time of that. \u00a0Called it a night early, which is by no means unusual.<\/p>\n
Saturday the wife was flying in, so I straightened up the house a bit, then drove down to Sacramento to pick her up at the airport. \u00a0I had big lunch date plans in mind for us, at Pizza Rock<\/a>. \u00a0We’ve been there once and really liked it, so I decided to seize the opportunity to hit it again while we were “downtown.” \u00a0Alas, a few loops around the block indicated parking was going to be more of a hassle than I cared to put up with. \u00a0So, we headed to our old standby, Burgers & Brew<\/a>. \u00a0Pretty much the only place we go down there. \u00a0Hey, it’s good, what can I say. \u00a0We came to regret our decision to sit outside on the patio, but other than that it was a fine lunch as always.<\/p>\n Sunday we decided to get out and about a bit. \u00a0After running through our options, we decided to load up the beach gear and head to nearby Folsom Lake. \u00a0It was a hot afternoon, but not really unbearable, and we’ve got a sun shade. \u00a0Things got off to a rough start pretty much from the get-go. \u00a0For one thing, there is darn near no water in the “lake.” \u00a0The vast majority of the shore access is reduced to steep drop-offs where the water used to be, much too steep to walk down. \u00a0We finally managed to get the car to a mostly isolated spot, reasonably close to the water, and parked it. \u00a0As soon as we opened the door Teagan bounded for the water and we quickly discovered why the spot was isolated: \u00a0It was a gooey stretch of mucky black mud instead of sand. \u00a0The dog didn’t seem to care, she blundered right through it and into the water. \u00a0Then, no sooner than I got out of the car, I saw a big boxer headed down the shore line towards us. \u00a0I don’t really let Teagan interact with other dogs (much to Donette’s dismay,) and I didn’t feel like experimenting this particular day. \u00a0Her meet-and-greets have about a 50\/50 chance of going bad, and the “bad” 50 just ain’t worth it to me, especially with a beast the size of the one heading towards us. \u00a0So, anyway, I kind of panicked and the first thing I thought was to open the car door and call her. \u00a0Well, being a good girl, she ran right up the beach and jumped in the front seat. \u00a0Then the back seat. \u00a0Then the front. \u00a0Then the back. \u00a0All while dripping mud and water\u00a0all over the interior. \u00a0Yeah, good start to the day. \u00a0Things went generally better from there. \u00a0She swam until she was thoroughly exhausted, which was the main purpose of the trip. \u00a0We sat under the sunshade and enjoyed the afternoon, also a key part of the day. \u00a0After that we headed back home and grilled a quite nice ribeye and watched the baseball game. \u00a0Not a bad day all in all. \u00a0We can get the car detailed another day.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
