Well that was actually a busy weekend. \u00a0As a matter of fact, I took off Thursday & Friday and stretched it out into a 4-day. \u00a0This was triggered by a visit from my ol’ buddy James from KC, AKA Munkirs, who flew up for Thursday & Friday. \u00a0It’s been so long since I’ve seen him we actually had things to talk about. \u00a0Maybe not two whole days worth, but if we rationed the subject matter and kept the chatter to a minimum, we stretched things out pretty well. \u00a0He actually rolled into town on Wednesday night, which allowed for a nice early start on Thursday. \u00a0We started off with a solid hike up in Auburn, at Hidden Falls Park<\/a>. \u00a0(Random side note: \u00a0I’d originally planned on Horsetail Falls<\/a> as a destination. \u00a0On a whim I checked the forecast: \u00a030 degrees and heavy snow. \u00a0Time for plan B. \u00a0If you’ve seen one Falls you’ve seen ’em all.) \u00a0I’ve been to Hidden Falls, but only on my mountain bike. \u00a0There is, I found, a reason for this. \u00a0Hiking is slow and hard. \u00a0Hills that are challenging on my bicycle are downright torturous on foot. \u00a0Oh well, the scenery was nice and they didn’t have to fly me out in the medevac. \u00a0After our hike we dropped\u00a0by Mt Vernon<\/a> winery, where I had a club pickup to make. \u00a0Hey, it’s a long drive out there, gotta make the rounds. \u00a0We then wound over to Auburn Ale House<\/a> for a quite passable lunch on their patio. \u00a0Not quite done yet, we made the somewhat long drive to Folsom, and visited the Folsom Prison Museum<\/a>. \u00a0It’s small but interesting, I usually take visitors by there. \u00a0After a quick stop by the house to clean up, THEN we drove up to Shingle Springs and met some friends at\u00a0the recently opened Breakroom<\/a>. \u00a0We’ve been there quite a few times and it’s growing on me. \u00a0If that sounds like more activity than I usually have in a given day, well, it is. \u00a0Heck it’s more activity than I have in a given week. \u00a0Guess I need house guests more often.<\/p>\n

Friday we huddled up over a delicious breakfast of boiled eggs to plot the itinerary for the new day. \u00a0His first suggestion was “Work out and bike ride.” \u00a0The conjunction in the phrase threw me off. \u00a0I’m assuming you meant “Work out or<\/em> bike ride.” \u00a0Alas, my hearing was correct the first time. \u00a0So we got ready and took the walk over to the gym at the neighborhood clubhouse. \u00a0Full disclosure, I badged us in the door, waited until he got started, and walked right the heck back home. \u00a0That’s just too much exercise for one day. \u00a0By the time he finished up, I’d enjoyed my umpteenth cup of coffee and was ready to go riding. \u00a0So, we loaded up and drove to the nearby American River bike trail. \u00a0It’s a nice paved trail that follows, not remarkably, the American River. \u00a0We rode for quite some distance. \u00a0Not sure how far, let’s just go with “Farther than most normal human beings are able to travel on a self-powered two-wheel vehicle.” \u00a0Yeah, that far. \u00a0In addition, we were bucking a 20 mph wind. \u00a0Not sure where THAT came from, but it was rather defeating. \u00a0Luckily that finished my physical torture for the day. \u00a0We finished the day back at the house, on the patio grilling a tri tip. \u00a0Much more my speed.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
