{"id":337,"date":"2008-12-22T10:40:58","date_gmt":"2008-12-22T16:40:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/?p=337"},"modified":"2008-12-22T15:03:11","modified_gmt":"2008-12-22T21:03:11","slug":"mississippi-queen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/mississippi-queen\/","title":{"rendered":"Mississippi Queen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The title of this posting has absolutely no meaning or relevance what-so-ever, it just jumped into my head. \u00a0Quite possibly from playing the song of that title about 6 times in our Rock Band game over the weekend. \u00a0Or maybe I was just thinking about Scotten; \u00a0That was his nickname in college.<\/p>\n<p>Relatively low-key weekend. \u00a0Who wants to go out in this crap. \u00a0Plus, I was oncall so I was obligated to take it easy. \u00a0Friday we did make an unscheduled trip to the Brooksider for Happy Hour. \u00a0It was their &#8220;Customer Appreciation&#8221; day or whatever they call it. \u00a0Not sure what they call it, but I do know they put out free food and I was hungry, so I went. \u00a0It was worth the trip; \u00a0I got full, plus they put out some free swag so I loaded up on new hats and shirts. \u00a0(If anybody gets a Brooksider shirt from me for Christmas, you now know where I did all my shopping.) \u00a0After that our friends David &amp; Brooke came over for some Rock Band practice. \u00a0Wow are we good. \u00a0We have yet to come up with a catchy band name though.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday I worked off and on. \u00a0Tried to take the dog for a walk but I didn&#8217;t make it very far. \u00a0It was too chilly for me, and he wasn&#8217;t too excited about it either. \u00a0We goofed off all day, and then for evening entertainment went over to John &amp; Susan&#8217;s for their annual Christmas party. \u00a0I think this event marks the official beginning of the holiday season for me. \u00a0It also marks the end though, so I&#8217;m done. \u00a0Yeah, 5 hours of it is about right.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday, yeah, football and a couch. \u00a0Those days are coming to a merciful end pretty soon though, so I figure I&#8217;ll stretch it out while it lasts. \u00a0I did put on a pot of gumbo, so that took up a good part of the afternoon. \u00a0The original plan was for David &amp; Brooke to come over and we were going to smoke ribs. \u00a0The more we watched the forecast over the weekend though, the more unlikely that scenario became. \u00a0So, the alternative menu kicked in; \u00a0Gumbo and hot dogs. \u00a0Not just <em>any<\/em> hot dogs&#8230; \u00a0Some kind of super premium dogs they buy at a butcher shop in Topeka. \u00a0Really. \u00a0And, if there actually is such a thing as premium hot dogs, I guess these would be them; \u00a0They ARE good. \u00a0I believe they may even have meat in them. \u00a0We did fire up the smoker and put a little apple smoke to them too. \u00a0The smoker actually heated up, much to my surprise, although it took a prodigous amount of charcoal and wood to get it there. \u00a0After dinner, we fired up the Wii for a while to work off some calories, and called it a weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Merry Christmas to everyone, stay warm and be safe. \u00a0Here are our family <a title=\"Kenagy Family '08\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/album.php?aid=88712&amp;l=b7a34&amp;id=519651076\" target=\"_blank\">Christmas pictures<\/a> we took this weekend; \u00a0Please print out your favorite one, and sign the back &#8220;Merry Christmas from Phil, Doni, Kane &amp; Gabe.&#8221; \u00a0Just in case we don&#8217;t get around to sending out cards this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The title of this posting has absolutely no meaning or relevance what-so-ever, it just jumped into my head. \u00a0Quite possibly from playing the song of that title about 6 times in our Rock Band game over the weekend. \u00a0Or maybe I was just thinking about Scotten; \u00a0That was his nickname in college.
