{"id":639,"date":"2010-05-14T07:48:21","date_gmt":"2010-05-14T12:48:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/?p=639"},"modified":"2010-05-14T07:48:21","modified_gmt":"2010-05-14T12:48:21","slug":"thirsty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/thirsty\/","title":{"rendered":"Thirsty?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I got the rare treat of leaving the office for lunch.\u00a0 I try to bring my lunch generally, but every now and then it&#8217;s nice to see the outside of the building, at least for an hour.\u00a0 So, when I got an invitation from some Facebook Friends, it sounded like an excellent opportunity.\u00a0 Said &#8220;Facebook Friends&#8221; would be Julie &amp; Tamara, some friends from back in the CMSU days.\u00a0 Anyway, at my suggestion, we met up at &#8220;Thirsty&#8217;s&#8221; down at 5th &amp; Walnut.\u00a0 That made my third trip there for lunch, my meal selections so far being 1) shrimp tacos, 2) cheddar burger, &amp; 3) pork enchilada.\u00a0 Having nothing else in particular to write about today, I will offer up my review on Thirsty&#8217;s based on those three trips.<\/p>\n<p>Positives:\u00a0 The building is cool.\u00a0 Original tin ceiling (at least to my untrained eye) and all-brick construction.\u00a0 I like the location too;\u00a0 Can&#8217;t beat the River Market area.\u00a0 The three lunches I&#8217;ve had were all quite good, especially the pork enchilada.\u00a0 The sides are kinda iffy.\u00a0 The beans may well be straight from a can, which is OK because I rather like canned refried beans. \u00a0 Plenty of tables and not too crowded.\u00a0 And I like their slogan:\u00a0 &#8220;I&#8217;d rather eat at a bar than drink in a restaurant.&#8221;\u00a0 This is a fact.\u00a0 I like bar food.\u00a0 This could well be why I need to drop 25 pounds.<\/p>\n<p>Negatives:\u00a0 Too much dang food.\u00a0 I suppose if the portions were too small I&#8217;d complain about that, but these are ridiculous.\u00a0 The burgers are 10 ounces.\u00a0 Seriously, who eats a burger that size?\u00a0 It will ruin your day.\u00a0 The enchilada was a 12&#8243; tortilla.\u00a0 ????\u00a0 That would be a &#8220;burrito,&#8221; and a large one at that.\u00a0 They have bread &amp; butter pickles with the burgers.\u00a0 Blech.\u00a0 Double-blech.\u00a0 And, perhaps the largest transgression, they have no Boulevard on tap.\u00a0 This probably shouldn&#8217;t be a factor, as it&#8217;s lunch time.\u00a0 But, I noticed it and couldn&#8217;t shake it.\u00a0 If that wasn&#8217;t bad enough, they have several Schlafly offerings.\u00a0 C&#8217;mon, you&#8217;re in KC, not St. Louis.\u00a0 Get with the program.<\/p>\n<p>Overall?\u00a0 It might be a three-and-out place for me.\u00a0 Compared to my baseline lunch (the Phoenix) it isn&#8217;t good enough to make me walk the extra three blocks.\u00a0 On to the next place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I got the rare treat of leaving the office for lunch.\u00a0 I try to bring my lunch generally, but every now and then it&#8217;s nice to see the outside of the building, at least for an hour.\u00a0 So, when I got an invitation from some Facebook Friends, it sounded like an excellent opportunity.\u00a0 Said [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-639","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/639","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=639"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/639\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=639"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=639"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=639"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
