{"id":820,"date":"2010-11-15T09:17:59","date_gmt":"2010-11-15T15:17:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/?p=820"},"modified":"2010-11-15T09:17:59","modified_gmt":"2010-11-15T15:17:59","slug":"got-my-moneys-worth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/got-my-moneys-worth\/","title":{"rendered":"Got My Money&#8217;s Worth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I got my money&#8217;s worth out of that weekend for once.\u00a0 We were busy pretty much all the time, which makes the weekend seem a bit short perhaps but at least I didn&#8217;t feel like I wasted it again.\u00a0 We even went out Friday night, a bit of a rarity.\u00a0 I&#8217;m usually too beat down on Fridays, but this time around we had volunteered to work at a poker fund raiser so that got us out of the house despite the driving rain.\u00a0 I ended up being a dealer, which was fun.\u00a0 I had no idea how to deal poker, but as it turned out it was easy enough and none of the participants seemed overly concerned with the details of the game anyway.\u00a0 We were there well into the night;\u00a0 Quite the late Friday for us.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday we got up, slowly got around, and headed up to the Northlands for a day of cooking at the Martin&#8217;s house.\u00a0 Donette&#8217;s family was stocking up on food for the holidays, so we had two briskets and two pork butts on for them, and Martin did another two pork butts, a turkey, and a slab of ribs.\u00a0 Might as well load the smoker up if you&#8217;re burning fuel.\u00a0 While all that was sitting happily in the smoker, we worked on a mojo-batch of gumbo too.\u00a0 With all the roux-stirring and chopping and boiling, it took nearly as long as the briskets.\u00a0 We came out of the day with a fridge full of food though, so all the effort was well-spent.\u00a0 After all that work the night rather strangely morphed into an evening of impromptu parties.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know if that is typical Northland behavior or not, hard to tell without more data.\u00a0 At any rate, we ended up at the neighbors house for quite a while, and then a small mob descended on Martin&#8217;s house late at night, and a party developed over there.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday we got around even slower than Saturday.\u00a0 First we dealt on all the food from the day before.\u00a0 Got all the pork and brisket divided up into more manageable portions and food-saved it all, and froze the gumbo for some future event.\u00a0 After that Donette promptly retired to the couch, and I went over to Ronnie&#8217;s house to watch the Chiefs spectacle.\u00a0 Despite the less-than-entertaining game we had a good time of it.\u00a0 These events are getting to be quite the &#8220;thing&#8221; lately.\u00a0 Everybody brings a dish and we make a decent party of it.\u00a0 Beats sitting shoulder-to-shoulder in the Brooksider all afternoon, where you can&#8217;t even hear the TV.\u00a0 Heck, yesterday Ronnie even turned on the heat in the house, I imagine for the first time this year.\u00a0 It works very well too&#8230;\u00a0 It got so hot in the house I spent the better part of the game on the front porch watching the TV through the window.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I got my money&#8217;s worth out of that weekend for once.\u00a0 We were busy pretty much all the time, which makes the weekend seem a bit short perhaps but at least I didn&#8217;t feel like I wasted it again.\u00a0 We even went out Friday night, a bit of a rarity.\u00a0 I&#8217;m usually too beat down [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-820","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/820","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=820"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/820\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=820"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=820"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.pkenagy.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=820"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
