Older & Dumber

Well, it happened. My birthday came again, and there was nothing I could do about it. Not just any birthday this time around, it was the big six-oh. Seems like not long ago I was in KC celebrating the big five-oh. I guess this was similar, but a lot worse. Sixty is… OLD. I feel at least 105. Oh well, what can ya’ do. (Nothing.) The wife did manage a little surprise dinner for the big day, which I have to admit was fun. I cannot think that I’ve ever had a surprise party, and it was truly unexpected. (It was a dinner at a local restaurant, not a “party” so much. Good time all the same.) She came up with what, in hindsight, was a pretty ridiculous story to get me to the restaurant, and meeting friends there was so far from my mind that I didn’t even question it. OK, yeah, a burger sounds good, lets go. So I’m gullible, sue me. The day after that was my actual birthday, and we went out to Fancy Dinner at a nice steakhouse in Folsom. Most people say, (myself included,) “you can just cook the same meal at home for a lot less.” Well, I can’t. Wow, it was incredible. Hopefully I can finish paying the bill by my 61rst birthday.

The weekend after that, we went to the annual BottleRock music festival. I think we just go every year as a matter of habit, because it’s really not a very good festival. Gets worse every year too. In my world of endless conspiracy theories, I have become convinced the organizers know that stupid Californians (myself included, I guess,) will come no matter what so they just get the cheapest, oldest, most obscure bands available and then charge insane prices to see them. Lumped into that theory is my belief that most of the crowd doesn’t come for the music anyway. Being Californians, they come for the “silent disco,” and the “beauty bar,” and the “massage tent,” and all that junk which I really could not care one bit less about. We’re going to another out-of-state festival later this year, and I am much more excited for that one. Unbelievable lineup, 4 days instead of 3 here, and a LOT less money for tickets. Anyway, I think we are finally done with good ol’ BottleRock. It’s just not worth it. Did I have a good time? Well, yeah, I guess I did for that matter. I am easily entertained, and sitting out in perfect weather people-watching for three days is not a bad way to pass time in my book. Still probably won’t go back though.
